Veganic Eco-Gardening for Personal-and-Planetary Health" by Don Weaver

Don Weaver returns to inform and encourage us to surrender to a healthy Spring Fever and the urge to plant our own mineralized-organic gardens and fruit trees. He thinks that generous local and global soil remineralization with rock dust to grow high-quality crops and trees is a primary key to regenerating the socio-ecosphere. Having 29 years as a healthy raw fooder and organic gardener, Don is glad to share his experience and thoughts, and to answer any questions. He also offers two free books online at www.remineralize.org, and will bring a few 50-bags of rock dust for those wanting to take some home; cost will be about $15/bag. If you want more than one bag it is a good idea to let Don know in advance: earthdon@yahoo.com.

Spring Feng Shui

Spring is nudging and bursting forth in all her glory even in the midst of unusual weather patterns: snow along the west coast in March! In Feng Shui, spring is
associated with the Family and Wealth sectors of your life. Of the five elements of earth, fire, metal and water, this season relates to Wood. Spring and wood
energy is about new growth, expansion, renewal and vitality.

These themes are central in many cultural and religious celebrations. It begins with Spring Equinox on March 20. This date is also the Persian New Year –
Noruz meaning “new day”. In April, there is Passover and Easter honoring freedom and rebirth. It’s a great time for a fresh new beginning.

Feng Shui basic concepts and principles originate from observing the dynamic interplay of nature. That’s why I feel passionate about gardening because it teaches me about “chi” – energy. With a deeper understanding of “chi” I can better help clients. Let’s explore three important gardening concepts as a metaphor and how we can apply them to our life and work.

What to Grow?

Spring is a review time. What plants stay in the garden and which ones didn’t work in the past and need to be removed. What do you want to add? Apply this analogy
to take stock and make decisions about your life and business. What’s doing well, stays, needs more attention? What do you need to change, eliminate or enhance? Where are you seeking expansion and vitality? Which areas of your life and business do you want to grow and have thrive? Clarity of intention and discernment is a way to direct new growth, expansion and vitality.

Weeding:

Weeds are especially prolific in spring. They can take over and crowd out what you are growing. You need to be able to distinguish between unwanted weeds and desirable growth and eliminate the weeds. Weeds are a natural fact of the garden. They often arrive airborne into the garden. You need to continually weed throughout the year; just doing it once in spring is not enough!

Think of weeds as all of those interruptions that keep you off track. Clutter piles in your home or office that keep you disorganized and distracted. This includes unused items or old patterns of thoughts that keep you clogged. We just remodeled our kitchen. Amazing! Half of what came out of those old pantry cupboards are unused items that are unnecessary.

Every part of your home and business relates to a life area. I recall Kay, a widow who was feeling ready to be in relationship again. She had an immaculate, clutter
free home – except for a guest cottage located in the marriage sector of her property. It was jammed with unused, old items. Once she cleared and ‘weeded’ it out, she met a companion.

Weeds are the annoying little things that pop up in your life. It gets in the way of effective living. They need to be managed regularly. The concept of Spring
Cleaning comes in here where you take the time to “clean and clear” from the attic, down to the basement areas of your life.

Pruning:

Pruning, unlike weeding, is done to PROMOTE NEW GROWTH. Rosarians severely prune and cut back canes, in order to produce stronger, healthier roses. Knowing where,
when and how to cut is important, to activate vigorous growth and beauty.
Health and longevity is important to me. I want to grow a healthy body in the
garden of my life. In January, I (a dessert addict) resolved to cut out white sugar intake. Saying “no” to all those delectable desserts in order to promote optimum health is a way of pruning.

What do you need to cut back? Perhaps it’s excessive TV watching, or a conflict generating staff person you need to cut. It’s amazing that sometimes the more severe the pruning – like taking a 10’ branch, almost down to the
ground, actually helps the shrub to grow fuller. In the same way, perhaps you need to have the courage to make a dramatic lifestyle shift or change direction
in your business plan in order to promote healthier, stronger, robust growth.

Unseen Pollutants and Energies:

Empty all trays and containers in your garden and patio, that’s holding stagnant water. These are perfect breeding grounds for future mosquito larvae. Be mindful about indiscriminate use of sprays in the home and garden. Toxic pesticides used by homeowners are showing up in our water and can adversely affect our health. Here’s a fabulous website to help you learn more. www.ipm.ucdavis.edu

Other Unseen energies:

“We traveled 22 hours returning from Mexico. Once home, my husband got disoriented and fell eight feet off our bedroom loft. He suffered a brain injury
and was in rehab for a month. When he came home, he kept stumbling and falling. Terumi sensed that something was really “off” in our home and did an energy clearing. Wow, what a difference. We both felt it right way. He’s now making rapid recovery.” J. Clark, Sebastopol, CA

Japanese Companies Develop Air-Purifying Paper

02/24/2006
Source: LOHAS Weekly Newsletter

Author: Japan for Sustainability

Nippon Paper Industries Co. has partnered with Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun to developed newsprint coated with photocatalytic titanium oxide. When the paper is exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays, it works to eliminate everyday odors such as tobacco smoke, sweat and pet odors. The companies say it is the world's first application of photocatalytic compounds to newspaper.

A problem existed with conventional technology because the photocatalytic reaction causes paper quality to deteriorate, but Nippon Paper Industries solved this problem and succeeded in achieving both an air purification effect and printability. The paper can endure high-speed printing by an offset rotary printing press, holds ink well, and can be used for flyers, posters and calendars.

Titanium oxide reacts as a photocatalyst under sunlight or fluorescent light, so it can decompose organic chemicals in the air such as formaldehyde, which can cause sick house syndrome. Titanium oxide is drawing attention as an effective photocatalyst due to its chemical stability and atmospheric neutrality.
