Fat Count

A good tip...

So, I've got some shopping tips for you the next time you go to the store. It will make it so you won't have to worry about counting fat in the foods you eat because there won't be anything over 20% fat in your house.
Here's what you do. Look at the label of the food you are buying. It will list the amount of calories per serving as well as how many grams of fat are in that serving. Just take the fat grams and add a 0 to it and then divide that number into the calories per serving.
If it's under 20% then you're good to go and can throw it in your shopping cart. If it's over 20% then put it back on the shelf and keep looking for something else. This is a simple formula that I've been using for years each time my wife or I go shopping. It's a great way to keep extra fat out of your house and therefore out of your mouth.
So here's an example: Let's say it has 200 calories per serving and 10 fat grams.
Add a 0 to the 10 to make it 100 calories of fat. 100 divided by 200 total calories = 50 % of the calories are coming from fat!
Here are some other shopping tips for a healthy lifestyle: Make sure to include plenty of healthy fats like avocados, extra virgin olive oil and raw nuts. Avoid trans fats by staying away from products that use hydrogenated oils.
